Overview

Pintado Petrel (Daption capense) is a species of Petrels, Shearwaters, Diving Petrels (Procellariidae) in the order Albatrosses, Petrels and Shearwaters.

Scientific Classification

Genus: Daption; binomial: Daption capense; authority: (Linnaeus, 1758).

Distribution

Breeding range: the Southern Ocean and Antarctica. Non-breeding range: to tropics in cold waters of Benguela Current of s Africa, s Australasia and Humboldt Current of South America n to Ecuador and s Brazil.

Conservation Status

This taxon is listed as Extant (living) in the IOC World Bird List.

Remarks

Change English name of Daption capense from Cape Petrel to Pintado Petrel (Hockey et al. 2005; SACC 990).
