Remarks

Forest Swallow is paraphyletic to the remainder of the species in Petrochelidon and forms a separate clade basal to Delichon. Further, its plumage, morphology, and nesting behavior differ from those of other major swallow lineages within the "mud-nester" clade of swallows. Formerly Petrochelidon fuliginosa, a new monotypic genus proposed for it: Atronanus de Silva et al., 2018 is tentatively adopted here but lacks Zoobank registration (L. Raty, in litt.). Note gender.
