Scopoli's Shearwater

Overview

Scopoli's Shearwater (Calonectris diomedea) is a species of Petrels, Shearwaters, Diving Petrels (Procellariidae) in the order Albatrosses, Petrels and Shearwaters.

Scientific Classification

Genus: Calonectris; binomial: Calonectris diomedea; authority: (Scopoli, 1769).

Distribution

Breeding range: the Atlantic Ocean. Non-breeding range: to Gulf Stream of temperate w Atlantic, off e Caribbean and ec South America to w, s African and s Malagasy waters.

Conservation Status

This taxon is listed as Extant (living) in the IOC World Bird List.

Remarks

Split Scopoli's Shearwater from Cory's Shearwater (Robb & Mullarney 2008; Howell 2012; Sangster et al. 2012; Chesser et al. 2024).
