Remarks
Split (10.1) of Eastern Black-eared Wheatear O. melanoleuca from Western addresses genetic paraphyly in this species complex (Aliabadian et al. 2012; Schweizer et al. 2019; Jirle for Swedish Taxonomic Committee). Black-eared Wheatear O. hispanica included subspecies hispanica and melanoleuca, but melanoleuca is sister to O. cypriaca and hybridizes extensively with O. pleschanka in northern Iran; hispanica is sister to that clade.
