Remarks
Green-backed Camaroptera Camaroptera brachyura (including pileata, fugglescouchmani, bororensis, and constans) is a proposed lump with Grey-backed Camaroptera Camaroptera brevicaudata (eleven subspecies) based on evidence of intergradation, similar vocalizations, little supporting genetic divergence, and hybridization in some areas (Dowsett & Dowsett-Lemaire 1993; Dickinson & Christidis 2014; del Hoyo & Collar 2016; Stevenson & Fanshawe 2020; WGAC 492). But they are sympatric in NE Tanzania and NE South Africa, where they are segregated locally by habitat. As such, they are retained as separate species by some (e.g. Hockey, Dean & Ryan 2001).
