Remarks
Includes "White-chested Tinkerbird" P. makawai, known only from the unique type specimen, was previously treated as a species based on its distinctive morphology (Collar & Fishpool 2006, HBW/BirdLife). But the preponderance of evidence points to it being better treated more likely as an aberrant individual of Yellow-rumped Tinkerbird P. bilineatus (Short & Horne 2001). Available mtDNA data demonstrate it to be deeply embedded within the P. bilineatus complex, which is also supported by limited nDNA results (Kirschel et al. 2018).
