Molecular studies indicate that Plumbeous Antbird (formerly included in Myrmeciza) is imbedded within a clade that includes species formerly assigned to the genus Schistocichla. With the revision of the genus Myrmeciza, Myrmelastes Sclater, 1858 becomes the genus appropriatedly applied to the species within this revised classification. Note gender change (Isler et al. 2013).
