This taxon is listed as Extant (living) in the IOC World Bird List.
Remarks
Phacellodomus ferrugineigula is sympatric with and split from P. erythrophthalmus (Simon et al. 2008; BLI; SACC 371). SACC 396 renamed Orange-breasted Thornbird.
